The City of Ashland is proud to announce that it has once again received the esteemed Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Award for Distinguished Budget Presentation for its 2023-2025 Biennial Budget. This recognition reflects Ashland's commitment to excellence in budget documentation and transparency.
For many years, Ashland has been a consistent recipient of this prestigious award, showcasing its dedication to high standards in financial planning and communication. The City's budget document was evaluated and found proficient in multiple categories, including policy documentation, operational guidance, financial planning and communication.
Established in 1984, the GFOA Award for Distinguished Budget Presentation aims to encourage and assist state and local governments in preparing budget documents of the highest quality. These documents must adhere to the guidelines set by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and reflect the GFOA's best practices in budgeting. The City of Ashland has proudly earned this award every biennium since 2013.
The 2023-2025 biennium marks a significant milestone as Ashland publishes its budget document in an interactive digital format for the first time. This new format offers the community an interactive and engaging experience, enhancing accessibility and understanding. Acting City Manager Sabrina Cotta remarked, “Our digital budget book expands on the old premise of presenting just raw data, it offers greater accessibility and ease of review. It’s an opportunity for us to tell our story and for the community to engage with a user-friendly platform that features a robust set of tools.”
Ashland's continued recognition by the GFOA underscores its commitment to transparency, accountability, and innovation in financial management. “We are Better Together!”
