News Release - City of Ashland Emergency Preparedness

[ARCHIVED] The National Weather Service Forecasts Excessive Heat Starting Sunday

Temperatures in Ashland are expected to exceed 95°F beginning Sunday, August 10, and continuing into next week. In response, cooling centers will be open at the following times and locations:


Cooling Center Locations & Hours

  • Sunday, August 10
    1. 9 a.m. to Noon and from 5 to 7 p.m.
    2.  Ashland Public Library (downstairs), 410 Siskiyou Boulevard.
  • Monday, August 11 and Tuesday, August 12
    1. Noon to 7 p.m.
    2. Trinity Episcopal Church, 44 N 2nd Street in Ashland.  

 

These spaces will be managed by local volunteers and coordinated by Avram Sacks. For more information call 541-220-7307 or email
 
Thanks to local volunteers, cool safe spaces will be available to anyone needing to get out of the heat.

 

Volunteer Orientation

Interested in helping? Join the Volunteer Orientation session on Monday, August 11, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Ashland Public Library in the Guanajuato Room.

Tips to stay safe during extreme heat 

  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Stay in an air-conditioned room if possible.
  • Avoid direct sunlight.
  • Check on relatives and neighbors.
  • Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings at forecast.weather.gov.

 

Cool off in a City Park

Ashland offers 19 parks and over 600 acres of open space with shady spots and water activities:

  • Swim Reservoir in Lithia Park: Fed by Ashland Creek.
  • Wading Area in Lithia Park: Near the children’s playground.
  • Splash Pad in Garfield Park.  
  • Daniel Meyer Pool in Hunter Park.
