News Release - City of Ashland Emergency Preparedness

[ARCHIVED] The National Weather Service Forecasts Excessive Heat Starting Thursday

Temperatures in Ashland are expected to exceed 95°F beginning Thursday, August 21, through Sunday, August 24. In response, cooling centers will be open at the following times and locations:

Cooling Center Locations & Hours

  • Thursday, August 21
    • TIME: 11 a.m. 7 p.m.
    •  LOCATION: OHRA (Opportunities for Housing Resources and Assistance) Center at 2350 Ashland Street, 541.631.2235 or email.  

 

  • Friday, August 22; Saturday, August 23; Sunday, August 24
    • TIME: 5 to 7 p.m.
    • LOCATION: Ashland Library, 410 Siskiyou Boulevard. The space will be managed by volunteers and coordinated by Avram Sacks and Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice, 541.220.7307 or email
    • TIME: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. 
    • LOCATION: Center at 2350 Ashland Street, 541.631.2235 or email.  


 
Thanks to local volunteers, cool safe spaces will be available to anyone needing to get out of the heat.

 Tips to stay safe during extreme heat 

  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Stay in an air-conditioned room if possible.
  • Avoid direct sunlight.
  • Check on relatives and neighbors.
  • Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings at forecast.weather.gov.

 

Cool off in a City Park

Ashland offers 19 parks and over 600 acres of open space with shady spots and water activities:

  • Swim Reservoir in Lithia Park: Fed by Ashland Creek
  • Wading Area in Lithia Park: Near the children’s playground
  • Splash Pad in Garfield Park
  • Daniel Meyer Pool in Hunter Park
