Student Resource Officer

This short film highlights the Student Resource Officer program in Ashland, which was brought back in 2025. The program is a collaboration between the City of Ashland and the Ashland School District.

Our Ashland Police Department representative serves first as a teacher and informal mentor, and then as a police officer. They are there to be a resource for anyone who may need support, no matter the situation.

This exceptional partnership is designed to build strong relationships and foster trust within our schools and community. We are Better Together!

Michael Bates, our Student Resource Officer

The video was made possible through the dedication and expertise of Postscript Strategy and the SOU Digital Media Center, who helped capture interviews with City leaders and community partners over four days of filming in Ashland. From more than five hours of interviews, this high-level piece was crafted to intentionally showcase the breadth of work underway across the City.

We are deeply grateful to David Sommers and Brandon Dowling of Postscript Strategy, and Brandon Givens and Jack Hannon of the SOU Digital Media Center, for producing, filming and bringing this project to life. We also thank the Ashland School District who generously shared their time and perspectives.
