In 1908, the City of Ashland set aside property for parkland and authorized a permanent tax levy to establish Ashland's first Parks Commission. (See Article 19, Section 3 of the City Charter.) The mission of the Ashland Park Commission (PC) is to provide and promote recreational opportunities and to preserve and maintain public lands.
The Ashland Park Commission is overseen by five (5) elected Commissioners.
- Regular business meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6 PM in Council Chamber.
- Study Sessions are held the 1st Wednesday of the month at 6 PM in Council Chamber.

City of Ashland televised meetings will occur on channel 180 for Charter subscribers. Ashland TV subscribers can continue viewing City meetings on channel 9.

The PC has the power to adopt by-laws, rules, and regulations for the proper conduct of public recreation in the City. The PC coordinates recreational facilities now within the City, or hereafter to be constructed or created. The PC shall have the power to conduct any form of recreation or cultural activity that will employ the leisure time of the people of Ashland and vicinity in a constructive and wholesome manner.
