Outdoor Fire Appliances and Fire Pits

Outdoor fireplaces and fire pits can be enjoyed safely and responsibly when fire danger is low or moderate.  Due to the fire danger in Ashland and our close proximity to the forest, outdoor fire pits need to follow specific criteria.   All fires, fire appliances and fire pits must adhere to Ashland Municipal Code 10.30.010, 10.30.030 and 15.28.060.Outdoor fireplaces and fire pits can be enjoyed safely and responsibly when fire danger is low or moderate.  Due to the fire danger in Ashland and our close proximity to the forest, outdoor fire pits need to follow specific criteria.   All fires, fire appliances and fire pits must adhere to Ashland Municipal Code 10.30.010, 10.30.030 and 15.28.060.

Wood Burning Outdoor Fireplaces

  • Fires are not allowed during high and extreme fire danger as declared by the Oregon Department of Forestry.
  • Commercially manufactured fire appliances and pits shall be used per manufacturer’s instructions and must have a safety screen.
  • Only dry wood or charcoal briquettes can be burned.
  • The fire should not be operated within 15 feet of a structure or combustible material.
  • All fires shall occur in the presence of an adult and be extinguished prior to darkness.


In -Ground Fire Pits

  • Fires are not allowed during high and extreme fire danger as declared by the Oregon Department of Forestry.
  • Only dry wood or charcoal briquettes can be burned.
  • Maximum pile size is 3 feet or less in diameter and 2 feet or less in height.
  • Minimum 25 feet from structure or combustible materials.
  • Must use a safety screen.
  • All fires shall occur in the presence of an adult and be extinguished prior to darkness.
