Home Energy Score
This January, the City of Ashland is launching a pilot Home Energy Score program to help residents find and prioritize opportunities to save money on their energy bills and reduce emissions.
From January through May 7, 2026, Ashland Electric customers will be eligible to receive a free Home Energy Score for their homes (while funding lasts). If you are concerned about rising energy costs, fixing your home’s energy features, or looking for a unique way to help sell your home, sign up now!
Interested in getting a Home Energy Score - simply schedule directly with an assessor below!
Home Energy Score was developed by the US Department of Energy to provide homeowners, renters, and buyers with information about how their home uses energy, and recommend ways to reduce energy use, lower utility bills, and improve comfort. The program provides a numeric rating of how well a home uses energy, similar to a miles per gallon rating for cars. This information makes it easier to make smart decisions about improvements or upgrades that can save energy in your home.
The Home Energy Score is an "asset" rating, which looks only at certain components of the house. The image from the U.S. Department of Energy demonstrates what the asset rating includes. The scope of the Home Energy Score improvements is also limited to these major assets and will provide weatherization and equipment upgrade recommendations to improve your score. Read more about the scoring methodology here. Therefore, important factors that influence the energy used in a home such as thermostat settings, appliances, occupants and "plug loads" are standardized with default characteristics to create a fair comparison of homes.
How it Works: A certified assessor will come to your home to evaluate its systems and structure and provide you with your score. You will also receive a list of recommendations for improvements you can make to increase your score in the future, which will help you save money on your utility bills while improving the comfort of your home. You may also be eligible for incentives to cover the cost of improvements or upgrades recommended on your Home Energy Score report. Click here for more information about available incentives.
Eligibility: Home Energy Score Assessments received through this pilot program are free for any Ashland Electric utility customer. All single-family homes, including side by side townhomes, are eligible to receive a Home Energy Score. Stacked Duplexes, Triplexes, and smaller multi-unit homes are eligible if the property owner and residents grant permission for the entire structure to be scored. Alternative assessment methods are available for multifamily buildings.
Real Estate: If you are hoping to include a Home Energy Score when selling your home, these scores can be included as part of your listing. To do so, please contact Earth Advantage at: HESinfo@earthadvantage.org
The assessors listed below are part of the Ashland Home Energy Score pilot program. They have been trained to be Home Energy Assessors by Earth Advantage and hold a Construction Contractors Board (CCB) license.
