City Council
The City Council is elected to serve as the governing body of our 20,960 Ashland residents (PSU Population Research Center certified population for 2019). The Mayor, who presides at the Council meetings, is elected at-large for a four-year term. Six Council members are elected at-large for four-year staggered terms.
-
Commissions
We have two Commissions, one that represents Planning for the City and one for our Parks and Recreation. The Planning members are appointed by the Mayor and the Parks Commissioners are elected by the people, in accordance with our City Charter.
-
Committees
We have several committees that advise City Council on matters from housing to public art and more. Occasionally, we have ad hoc committees that will work on special projects for a specified amount of time.
Public Meeting Law (PML) Grievances
City of Ashland meeting bodies, including City Council, Parks and Recreation Commission, and all boards and committees, are subject to Oregon's Public Meetings Law. Violations of the PLM can be reported through the grievance process outlined by state law and the Oregon Government Ethics Commission (OGEC). Written grievances may be submitted by email to the City Attorney, Johan Pietila, or City Recorder Alissa Kolodzinski, by mail: 20 East Main St, Ashland OR 97520. or in-person at City Hall (20 East Main St), Thursdays 8:30 to 10 a.m., or by appointment. Once received, the City will initiate the process as outlined by the OGEC. Appeals or disagreements with the final decision of the City may be sent to OGEC.
