Streets

Our Street Division has five primary areas of responsibility:

  • Street patching and paving
  • Ditch cleaning and street grading
  • Street sweeping and bike path maintenance
  • Street signs and crossings
  • Minor storm drain pipeline construction

Street crews are also responsible for un-planned street maintenance and cleanup of accidents, floods, snow removal, de-icing activities, and so on, and analyzing street conditions through the new Pavement Management System.

We operate two street sweepers, in addition to a dedicated sweeper for the bike lanes/paths. Did you know we have a schedule for when and where the street sweepers will run?

When the leaves are falling

Please do not dump leaves from private property onto the street, it overwhelms our system and adds significant disposal costs.

When snowy conditions are upon us, we have a plan in place to keep city streets safe!

We have five snowplow-equipped trucks. When snow arrives, our trained operators plow roads based on a priority system: routes to the Ashland Hospital and major arterials take precedence over collector streets and neighborhoods. If the snowfall is continuous, our crews may be busy plowing the same routes repeatedly to keep priority streets accessible. In those scenarios, your neighborhood street may not get plowed for several days.
