Are you interested in joining the City as a Committee or Commission member?

  1. Learn What It Means to Serve
    Review these important documents to understand the responsibilities of commission and committee members:

  2. Attend a Meeting
    Join a meeting of the commission or committee you're interested in to get a feel for how it works.
  3. Submit an Application
    Apply to serve on the committee or commission that aligns with your interests. 
  4. Meet with Staff and Leadership
    Schedule a meeting with the Staff Liaison and the Committee/Commission Chair to learn more about current projects and expectations.
  5. Discuss with the Mayor
    The Mayor will review your application and meet with you to discuss your potential appointment.
  6. City Council Approval
    If the Mayor approves, your appointment will be forwarded to the City Council for final approval at a regular business meeting.
  7. Acknowledge City Policies
    Once appointed, you’ll be asked to sign off on the Commission and Committee Handbook and the Social Media Policy.
  8. Start Your Service
    Begin your role as a Commission or Committee member and start making a difference in your community!

City of Ashland meeting bodies, including City Council, Parks and Recreation Commission, and all boards and committees, are subject to Oregon's Public Meetings Law. Violations of the PLM can be reported through the grievance process outlined by state law and the Oregon Government Ethics Commission (OGEC). Written grievances may be submitted by email to the City Attorney, Johan Pietila, or City Recorder Alissa Kolodzinski, by mail: 20 East Main St, Ashland OR 97520. or in-person at City Hall (20 East Main St), Thursdays 8:30 to 10 a.m., or by appointment. Once received, the City will initiate the process as outlined by the OGEC. Appeals or disagreements with the final decision of the City may be sent to OGEC.
